Ramifications of AI on our humanity and societies

In September 2024, I spoke about the ramifications of AI on our humanity and societies at the Integral Economics CAS of Université de Fribourg/Universität Freiburg, together with Dr. Oliver Dürr. Some hypotheses:

1) AI is not just a technology & scientific field, it is also a dream-enabling *empty phrase*
=> dreams or nightmares of superintelligence or extinction are fueld by world view alone
=> cp. the TESCREAL school of thought

2) AI is a tool, not a personal counterpart
=> because why should we want and design something else?

3) Machine-learning-based AI is function approximation, which is a very general problem formulation (e.g., mapping senses to behaviour)
=> what relevant aspects of being human are not modeled by it? Spirit, …
=> a battle of retreat w.r.t. what remains of man’s uniqueness must be avoided (in this context, the recent book The Atomic Human by Neil Lawrence is relevant and very interesting)

4) We have agency in designing the future, whereby technology can help to do tremendious good
=> let’s do good based on a realistic positive worldview, including faith
